Associate Attorney (Public Entity Defense)

A California public entity defense firm is adding one or more litigation associates to its team. Fully remote, hybrid, or in the office, the arrangement is built around what works for you.

- You'd run your own cases with minimal supervision from the start.
The firm has spent more than three decades defending public entities across California, including counties, cities and towns, school and community college districts, water districts, and police and fire departments. Its work covers employment law, tort liability, civil rights, and property damage, and police liability defense is a core strength.
The team is about 25 attorneys, supported by a dedicated group of legal assistants, and is based in the Bay Area. New associates get a full caseload and real independence in how they handle it.
What you'll do:
- Represent public entity clients in state and federal court across a diverse range of cases.
- Manage your own caseload with minimal supervision.
- Conduct legal research and analysis to shape case strategy.
- Draft pleadings, discovery, motions, and briefs.
- Attend court hearings, depositions, and trials.
- Work with partners, associates, and support staff to keep cases moving efficiently.
- Keep clients informed on case assessment, investigation, discovery, and litigation developments.
What they're looking for:
- 1 to 7 years of experience practicing law, with a litigation focus preferred.
- Admitted to practice in California.
- Living in, or willing to relocate to, the Bay Area for in-person hearings and proceedings.
- Comfortable running cases independently.
- Trial experience is a plus.
Compensation & Benefits:
- Base salary of $125,000 to $180,000, depending on experience.
- 1,850 billable hour requirement, with a $100 bonus for every hour billed above it.
